Responsible Gambling Compliance for Affiliates

Responsible gambling compliance is not just a legal requirement in many jurisdictions — it is a fundamental ethical obligation for anyone operating in the iGaming space. Here is what you need to know and do.

Why Compliance Matters In regulated markets like the UK, failure to include appropriate responsible gambling content can result in operators terminating your affiliate agreement without warning. The UKGC has issued guidance to operators requiring them to enforce compliance among their affiliate partners.

Mandatory Disclosures All marketing material targeting UK audiences must include: the operator's licence details or gambling regulator logo, a clear responsible gambling message, links to organisations like GamCare, BeGambleAware and GamStop, and a "18+" or "Over 18s only" statement.

Affiliate Disclaimer Every page on your site should include a disclosure that you receive commissions when users click affiliate links and sign up. This is required by the ASA, FCA guidelines, and affiliate programme terms. Place it prominently, not hidden in a footer.

Content Restrictions Avoid marketing gambling as a way to make money, escape problems, or solve financial difficulties. Do not target content at under-18s. Do not claim that gambling is "safe" or minimise the risks.

Self-Exclusion Tools Link prominently to GamStop (UK self-exclusion register) on your responsible gambling page. Explain how to set deposit limits, session limits and self-exclusion options at different operators.

Keeping Up with Regulatory Changes Subscribe to the UKGC newsletter and the ASA CAP rulings relevant to gambling. Regulations change frequently, and your content must reflect current requirements. Conduct a quarterly compliance review of your key pages.

Building a Responsible Gambling Page Create a dedicated responsible gambling page with: problem gambling signs and symptoms, tools available at licensed operators, contact details for UK charities (Samaritans, GamCare, GAMH), and a clear statement of your editorial values.
